Oil On Board 8×10
After my Tuesday class in Felixstowe, a week or so ago, I went on to Felixstowe Ferry to paint. I have a show in Felixstowe this September so want to get some good paintings of views around the area. This view is looking back towards Felixstowe from the older part, Felixstowe Ferry.
Whilst painting I had a few people stop and chat. This included one of my old teachers from the High street in Ipswich – John Rixon. We bump into each other now and again and say hi. I really enjoyed my two years studying art there, John was a good teacher – he had a lot of enthusiasm and was generous with encouragement if he saw something good. There is a time and a place for constructive criticism but for myself and my students I often think some positive feedback can makes all the difference when learning to draw or paint.
The greatest way to improve drawing or painting is to simply do more! – discouragement or negative self talk, or self sabotage can be the biggest obstacles to that. Every time you get the paints out and do one little study, some learning takes place – even if the result doesn’t show it! – So I always try and focus on the good ones and don’t hesitate to wipe of scrap the bad ones.
