Oil on Board – 8 x 10
As you can see from this and the last painting were painted using a portrait format. After the first few years of painting outdoors I made the commitment to always try to bring a viewfinder with me. When I arrive at a location the first thing I do is have look around with it. It really helps the process of deciding what to paint and how to crop things to create a balanced composition. In this case I liked the portrait view.
Although you can always use your fingers in L shapes – I would recommend getting a good view finder.
This is the one I like – View Catcher
